Undefeated UAM Esports Team To Compete for Divisional Championship Title
麻豆视频 (UAM) Esports League of Legends team will take on Ferris State University in the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) Varsity Plus Divisional Championship on Tuesday, April 8, at 6 p.m.
As the top seed in the playoffs, the team earned a first-round bye and then defeated Talladega College in the semi-final round of the playoffs on April 1, securing UAM a spot in Tuesday's divisional championship match. The team remains undefeated throughout both the regular season and playoffs 鈥 a significant milestone as it marks the first time in program history that a UAM Esports team has achieved a perfect regular season record.
In addition, this is the second time in UAM Esports program history that a team has advanced to the divisional championship match. Last semester, UAM Esports Rocket League team also competed for the championship, successfully securing the university's first esports championship title only one year after the formation of the team at UAM.
UAM Esports League of Legends team members include Alexsavior Ayala, team captain and a sophomore biology and biochemistry double major from Warren, Arkansas; Jordan Berryman, a junior computer information systems major with a concentration in programming from Hamburg, Arkansas; Jaxon Davidson, a senior education studies major from Crossett, Arkansas; Marcia Lindsey, a freshman nursing major from Monticello, Arkansas; and Alexander Wargo, a sophomore mathematics major with a data science option from Warren, Arkansas.
Devin Burton, head coach of UAM Esports, praised the team鈥檚 dedication, stating, 鈥淭his season has been a testament to the hard work and commitment of our players. Seeing them advance to the divisional championship after an undefeated regular season is incredibly rewarding. Their growth, especially under the leadership of team captain Alexsavior Ayala, has been remarkable. They鈥檝e put in the time and practiced relentlessly, and now they鈥檙e ready for this moment. They鈥檙e going into the championship with confidence, knowing they鈥檝e earned their place, and they are the team to beat.鈥
Notably, Lindsey is UAM Esports鈥 first female student-athlete. 鈥淗aving our first female player on the team has been a great experience,鈥 Burton said. 鈥淗er presence brings a unique dynamic to the group, and she fits right in with the team. It鈥檚 not about gender, but about the drive, commitment and desire to improve, and she has all of that. She鈥檚 grown so much this season, and her contributions have definitely helped the team be more grounded and focused. It鈥檚 important to show that our program is inclusive, and UAM Esports encourages all passionate players to try out for one of our teams.鈥
